A design decision was made to focus the development of the new website using the latest technology, rather than invest time and energy in making it backwards compatible with non-compliant browsers.

Internet Explorer 6 was released on August 27, 2001. Although it was shipped as standard with the Windows XP operating system, it is widely recognised as a poor browser that does not comply with recognised HTML standards and contains many security issues.
